Leicester boss Rodgers: We we won FA Cup I still had critics here

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers knows there's a section of the support wanting him out after their 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace.

City supporters booed at the final whistle of Saturday's 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace, with fans in the singing section then unfurling a banner that read: “Board – the time for action is now!" That was followed by a smattering of chants calling for Rodgers to be sacked.

Pressed for his thoughts on the banner, Rodgers said: “When I came in here, it was to take the team up the league and try to disrupt the top teams and we were able to do that, with two fifth-placed finishes. We won the FA Cup for the first time in the club's history.

“Then we haven't been able to strengthen in the summer. If you can't strengthen and other teams do, you're going to get overtaken. I respect that we were unable to do anything in the summer. If there is anger to vent, it will be to me because it can't be to the owners. They've been amazing here.

“That's something I take on board but it doesn't shift my concentration on the job. I'm an experienced manager now. I'll always do my very best and I can regulate all that pressure. There's no drama with that.

“When we were winning the FA Cup, I had critics, so when we're at the bottom, I'll definitely have critics. So you just look to your next game.

“Top's a good guy and it's amazing for him to be here. We haven't won a game of football and he's like us, he wants to win and do well. There's no issue there. They understand the difficulties there are going to be this year with us not being able to improve. But he wants to win.

“I've always had brilliant support from him. We had a long conversation yesterday. I've had no indication of anything. I understand football. It would never change my feeling for him if he ever had to make a change. That's the reality.

“He's a good guy who has inherited a football club in his early 30s after a tragic event and I think he's been brilliant in that time. He's given me support and the team as much support as he could. He's been rewarded for that.

“Now, in a tough period, he's still been supportive. How long that lasts, we'll see. He'll tell me if it changes. Until then I'll stay focused, keep working, and take it from there."
