Leeds push to appoint new manager before Everton 6-pointer

Leeds United are determined to find their new manager in the coming days.

The Daily Mail says they want to have a new manager in place for next Saturday's relegation crunch game with Everton.

The club's director of football Victor Orta is continuing to pursue targets after West Brom's Carlos Corberan and Feyenoord's Arne Slot decided to stay at their respective clubs.

Orta has not yet given up on his preferred choice, Rayo Vallecano's Andoni Iraola, but the 40-year-old coach has been reluctant to end his association with the Spanish club on bad terms.

Vallecano refused permission for Iraola to join Leeds unless his £7m release clause was met as they are sixth in La Liga and exceeding expectations. For him to go, Iraola would have to pay his own release clause and be seen to be forcing his way out.

Ahead of Vallecano's game with Getafe on Sunday, Iraola said: "It's true that there has been noise but my situation hasn't changed. I'm still focused on Rayo."

Leeds are also considering Nuno Espirito Santo, the former Tottenham boss now at Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia, former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard and Celtic's Ange Postecoglou.
