Leeds chairman Bates: Taiwo got it wrong with Chelsea move

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates says Tom Taiwo's family was wrong to take their son to Chelsea.

He told the Telegraph: "So many players are poached by big clubs and disappear. The parents have a heavy responsibility to think about their son's long-term career ahead of short-term gains. Tom Taiwo [taken from Leeds by Chelsea] is on loan at Carlisle. No disrespect to Carlisle but it is not quite what he thought he would get when he signed for Chelsea.

"Frank Arnesen [Chelsea's sporting director] is supposed to have spent over £30 million and not one has come through. The problem is that in Chelsea's position they need the instant finished article, so they go out and buy.''
