Leeds boss Marsch convinced young trio have big future with club

Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch has praised the confidence of youngsters Mateo Joseph, Sonny Perkins and Darko Gyabi.

The trio were handed their Leeds debuts by the manager on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup 1-0 defeat against Wolves.

Despite the opposition having seasoned Premier League stars in their line-up, the three youngsters did not look out of place in the game.

Post-game, Marsch wrote on Twitter: "The result wasn't what we wanted last night but it was great to see Mateo, Sonny, and Darko play with such confidence. The future is bright!!"

He also added in his post-match comments to reporters: "Yeah, cup matches can go a lot of different way but we knew we'd put a lot of young players out on the pitch - a lot of young players that we believe in - and I think they performed really well.

"Against a good opponent, an opponent that played a lot of guys that have a lot of first-team minutes, a lot of Premier League minutes, I thought we had a really good performance and were unlucky not to come away with more.

"I would say Mateo Joseph was very good on the day, a little bit unlucky on the action where he's in on goal that he can't find a way to get something on-frame.

"I thought Sonny Perkins also played really well, we used him a couple of different roles but I thought he was really intelligent, found a lot of good spaces, was also dangerous and great defensively.

"And then I thought Darko [Gyabi] really grew into the game. I think he found the game a lot, he looked confident on the ball, he started to initiate things, won some balls in the midfield."
