Lazio coach Sarri backing Spalletti for Italy job

Lazio coach Maurizio Sarri is backing Luciano Spalletti for the Italy job.

FIGC are seeking a new Italy coach after Roberto Mancini's resignation on Sunday.

Spalletti is available after stepping down at Napoli having led them to the Scudetto last season. However, he does remain contracted to the Azzurri.

Sarri commented on Tg1: "It is clear that he has no experience with regard to national teams, but it is equally clear that he has the experience and knowledge to adapt very quickly."

There is an issue, however, as Napoli are insisting FIGC must pay €3.2m to buy out Spalletti's contract - a fee the federation are reluctant to pay.
