Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta supports the appointment of Quique Setien - but has slammed the board for their treatment of Ernesto Valverde.

Valverde was sacked and replaced by Setien on Monday.

Laporta took to social media to declare: "Beyond that I like Setien as a coach, it is clear that the project of this board of directors, based on lies and improvisation, causes an astronomical amount of money to be spent.

"As I like Setién, I wish him luck. That he can apply his philosophy, he remains faithful to his principles and above all has the courage and skill necessary to manage the environment in which he has put himself in."
