LA Galaxy's Donovan named MLS Player of the Week

LA Galaxy captain Landon Donovan was named the MLS Player of the Week for Week 6.

The USA international returned to MLS action after a three-match absence in fine form, scoring two goals and providing an assist as the Galaxy defeated Portland Timbers 3-0 on Sunday.

Donovan found Chad Barrett in the fourth minute with a lovely through ball before converting from the penalty spot after he was brought down in the area four minutes later.

He then wrapped up the match in the 67th minute with a powerful header from a neat Juan Pablo Angel chip - his performance giving him Player of the Week honours.

Donovan joins five other players who have all scored braces to be nominated by North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).
