Koeman praises Southampton's reaction in Arsenal win

Southampton boss Ronald Koeman was delighted with his players after they came from behind to defeat Arsenal 2-1 in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

The Saints fell behind when Gunners' summer signing Alexis Sanchez netted from a 25-yard free-kick in the 14th minute at the Emirates Stadium but Dusan Tadic managed to level six minutes later from the penalty spot.

Koeman's side then took the lead courtesy of a thunderous Nathaniel Clyne strike from 30 yards five minutes before half-time, which ended up being the winner.

After the triumph, Koeman was full of praise for his Saints side who have enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2014/15 season which culminated in a maiden win over Arsenal at the Emirates.

"Winning at Arsenal is difficult. After Sanchez's fantastic free-kick, I think we had a fantastic reaction," Koeman told the club's official website.

"It was a great performance and there was a great spirit in the team. It was an amazing, amazing result.

"We kept our spirit, kept our ambition and kept our belief. I think that was key today.

"It's a fantastic start, but we have to continue it. If we always give 100% then we can have a fantastic season.

"We have to keep both feet on the ground because Saturday against QPR will be different - and maybe more difficult."

Southampton, who are now into the fourth round of the league cup, are currently placed second on the Premier League table ahead of Saturday's home fixture against 18th-placed QPR.
