Kalmar just happy to do team things at Melbourne Heart

Promising Melbourne Heart midfielder Nick Kalmar says he doesn't mind what sort of role he plays, as long as he is doing the best for the team.

The 22-year old, who kicked off his A-League career with a great first month or so, has recently lost his place in the starting line-up to veteran Josip Skoko but says it doesn't overly bother him ahead of Friday's first-ever derby between the Heart and the Melbourne Victory.

"The team hasn't been finalised yet. I'm not too sure, that will get done before the game so I just have to wait and see," he told tribalfootball.com of his starting chances now Skoko is back.

"I can't really say too much about the picking of the team. All I can do is do my part for the team and when I get a chance to play, whenever that is, I'll do my best for the team."

Kalmar has come on in leaps and bounds since joining the Heart from Victorian Premier League club Oakleigh Cannons earlier this year and puts his successful transition down to the fact that everybody around him at the new A-League club has been more than helpful.

"The guys around me and the coaching staff are very professional and they've helped me through my games. That's probably been the reason why I've done well at the start of the season," he said.

As for the derby, Kalmar said he can't wait for the rivalry to begin.

"Yeah very excited. As you can imagine the while club is pretty excited, it's the biggest derby in Australian football to date," he added.

"Game's like this, if you can't get yourself up for these games you probably shouldn't be playing. Everyone's really pumped, it's been a big week for us. We've put a lot of hard work in at training and we are all eager to get out there."
