Jorge Messi has made a show of support for new Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
Lionel Messi's relationship with Laporta is well documented, with the newly elected president having actually been serving his first term in the role when Messi came through the La Masia academy.
The relationship is so strong that Laporta has used it to campaign this time around.
Laporta has assured fans that he, and only he, will be able to persuade Messi to stay with the club, with the Argentine's contract due to expire in June of 2021.
Laporta made clear that the captain had sent him a message of congratulations on his electoral triumph, while Jorge Messi gave him a rather more public sign of support.
On Barcelona's official Instagram post announcing Laporta's victory, Messi's father actually liked the image, which is a gesture that could be interpreted to mean that the player himself is now more likely to stay at the Camp Nou.
