Italy coach Marcello Lippi has cooled talk of moving for Reading's Australian goalkeeper Adam Federici.

It emerged on the weekend that Federici had been sounded out by the Italian Federation about his qualifications.

"I also read the reports in the newspaper," Lippi told tuttomondiali. "But it is just an invention by someone.

"I've never followed [his progress], I do not even know who he is. I read that it was requested by someone in the Federation, but I can assure you that is a total invention."
