Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark is a target for the Republic of Ireland.

Clark, who is on the fringes of Gerard Houllier's claret and blue first team this season, has represented the Three Lions at various age groups.

But the 20-year-old defender is being sounded out by Irish officials about the possibility of switching allegiances to the Emerald Isle, says the Birmingham Mail.

Villa have confirmed that Clark, who is currently sidelined with a dead leg, has been approached by Ireland and is considering his decision.
