Iker Muniain has signed a new five-year contract with Athletic Bilbao.

The playmaker, who turns 26 next month, has committed his future to his boyhood club.

"Athletic and the player have agreed to eliminate the possibility of the contract ending with the payment of a release clause," the club said in their announcement.

Muniain, who has been in the first team since 2009, debuted under Joaquin Caparros and has overcome two serious knee injuries.

This Sunday, he will play game number 360 for the Bilbao club.
