Juventus has opened the new Serie A season with a solid 1-0 win at home to Chievo Verona. The bianconeri took the lead after only 11 minutes, with Vincenzo Iaquinta heading home a well delivered freekick from new recruit Diego.

The home side went into the clash without captain Alessandro Del Piero, a back injury keeping him out of the opening game of the season for the first time in his career.

Chievo Verona took the game up to Juventus in the second half in search of an equaliser but were unable to penetrate the solid Juventus defence.
