I would rather beat West Brom than win the EuroMillions - Aston Villa's Sherwood

Tim Sherwood was reveling in his first victory as Aston Villa manager on Tuesday night.

The Villans edged West Midlands rivals West Bromwich Albion 2-1 in the derby at Villa Park courtesy of an injury-time penalty from Christian Benteke.

The triumph, Sherwood's first since replacing Paul Lambert last month, saw Villa move out of the bottom three and the former Tottenham boss admits it was a better feeling than winning the lottery.

"It's the best feeling in the world," said Sherwood.

"When I left home my missus said 'I've done the EuroMillions - the jackpot is £54million'. I told her that I'd prefer to take the three points and I mean that.

"We deserved to win the game because we controlled the play and we deserved to go ahead.

"We always thought the chance would come but I did not think it would be that late."

Sherwood then joked: "I think my missus won as well!"

Gabby Agbonlahor opened the scoring with a composed finish after a Benteke header in the 22nd minute before Saido Berahino replied for Albion on 66 minutes with as close range header prior to the 94th-minute spot-kick.
