Hutton wins long-term Rangers deal

Rangers defender Alan Hutton has signed a new five-year deal after convincing manager Walter Smith he can hold down the right-back role.

The 22-year-old established himself in the Rangers team after Smith arrived at Ibrox midway through last season. He went on to make his Scotland debut in May, having helped Rangers secure second place in the SPL.

Hutton told the Rangers website: "I'm delighted to have signed this new contract and I'm just looking forward to the new season now.

"We've been in talks with the club for a wee while now so I'm glad it's done and out of the way and I can now concentrate on the football side of things."
