Hutton impressing Scotland's Strachan despite no Villa game time

Scotland boss Gordon Strachan feels Alan Hutton is giving him some top-class performances despite the fact he is not getting any minutes at club level.

The 28-year old right-back has been frozen out at Aston Villa, failing to get any game time so far this season, but has done well for Scotland in four appearances against Croatia, England, Belgium and Macedonia since June.

Ahead of Tuesday's final World Cup qualifier against Croatia in Glasgow, Strachan spoke of just how impressed he has been by Hutton whose future at Villa continues to be clouded.

"You need to ask Alan if he thinks his situation (at Villa) will become detrimental," said Strachan.

"He has surprised me with his performances, considering he's not getting any games.

"Against Croatia and England he was as good as I've seen him playing for years. He was terrific.

"It's hard when you're not getting a game. But it seems the training that Villa are doing is probably enough for him.

"We have facilities and people ready to help them do a bit extra.

"I see that with some of the lads who are not getting a game, they do extra work."
