Hull City boss Steve Bruce is determined to boost his strike-power.
The Hull Daily Mail says the focus is on securing a striker in the coming days.
Celtic's Gary Hooper and Burnley's Charlie Austin remain on City's wish-list, but only if deals less than £5m can be agreed.
Despite each turning down City's initial offer, both clubs remain willing to negotiate, with progress made in talks with Celtic on Hooper over the past week.
City have also expressed an interest in Norwich striker Grant Holt although no official offer has yet been made.
