Hodgson gives Leicester ace Vardy time off to get married

England manager Roy Hodgson has given time off to Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy so he can finally be married this week.

The 29-year-old, who has already put off his wedding in the past because of an England call-up, will get married on Wednesday and will subsequently miss Friday's friendly with Australia at the Stadium of Light.

Hodgson said: "Vardy will not be involved on Friday because he is getting married on Wednesday and you could say that is unfortunate.

"The public might be surprised, but the major reason for it is because he had to cancel the wedding last year when I called him up. It was more difficult for me than maybe it would have been to complain about this date.

"So we won't see so much of him for a few days. We wish him all the best with that. Under normal circumstances, Wednesday would be when we would join up again and when he planned the wedding, he probably expected 10 days off first before coming back for international duty.

"We know Jamie, we are satisfied with him and I don't think his place is under serious threat, so it hasn't caused me too many problems."
