Hasenhuttl overjoyed as Ings brace fires Southampton past Watford

Ralph Hasenhuttl was delighted after watching Southampton claim a 3-1 win over Watford at Vicarage Road.

Danny Ings scored in each half before an own goal from Jan Bednarek gave a glimmer of hope to the relegation-threatened Hornets.

But an excellent free-kick from captain James Ward-Prowse sealed the win for the Saints.

The result means Watford remain mired in a relegation battle, only one point ahead of West Ham United and Bournemouth, who both now have a game in hand.

Speaking after the game, Hasenhuttl said: "We are very pleased. I think we know it is difficult here because they have won a lot of points with a new manager.

"It was the first time we have really performed well against a side who doesn't give you the chance to win the ball in their half. We were quite good on the second balls and we put the ball on the ground, tried to get into their half without a lot of risk.

"I think the guys were fantastic and this also helps when you score in the right moments, as we did today. After the second goal we played a very disciplined and calm game and it was convincing.

"It was important that we immediately went to 3-1 with that free-kick from Prowsey. You know, I know, with 10 minutes to go anything can happen, but it was more than deserved in this game."
