Manchester City legend Shaun Goater believes that his former side will be able to dominate world football for the next few years following the appointment of Pep Guardiola.

Usually accustomed to purchasing star players over the last few years, City have now moved on to acquire the services of a superstar manager in the form of Bayern Munich's Guardiola and many are excited to see what sort of impact the Spaniard will have at the Etihad Stadium next season.

Former City striker Goater is also eagerly awaiting the arrival of Guardiola and has stated his belief that the former Barcelona boss can turn the Citizens into the most dominant force in Europe during the next few years.

Goater told the Manchester Evening News: "I think that's what it does, it actually says 'we have the opportunity to go and dominate football' for the next five or ten years, even beyond Pep Guardiola.

"I think Guardiola could be the one that helps us win the Champions League, to really give us that glamour status.

"We'll have the best players, we have the best manager and it means we could go on and dominate football for a number of years. Stability can also mean that if you have another manager, they come in and take it over from that period and continue winning.

"Guardiola is not one that thinks about being at a club for six, seven plus years but what the club needs is to win the Champions League and then go on to consistently win the Premier League."
