Glazer and Arnold support Ten Hag as next Man Utd manager

Manchester United co-owner Joel Glazer is backing the appointment of Ajax coach Erik ten Hag as new manager.

ESPN says Glazer has overruled the opinion of United's advisors as he prepares to appoint Erik ten Hag as the club's next manager.

The Red Devils have been searching for a long-term replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer since November, when they sacked the Norwegian. Ralf Rangnick stepped in as interim boss, but the German will move into a consultancy role in the summer.

Ten Hag was thought to be in a four-way race to take over at Old Trafford and was interviewed by United chiefs last month. The Dutchman has impressed at Ajax during five years at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

But despite Ten Hag having won two Eredivise and KNVB Cup doubles, some at United preferred to appoint Mauricio Pochettino. The search for a new boss has been led by football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher.

But co-owner Glazer is said to have had the final say over the appointment, with chief executive Richard Arnold joining the American in deciding Ten Hag is the 'best candidate'. The Dutchman is ready to depart Ajax this summer, with the Eredivise giants already planning for life with a new manager.
