Giovanni Simeone excited joining Napoli: The homeland of Maradona

Giovanni Simeone is happy to have joined Napoli.

The striker, the son of Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone, joined Napoli this week from Sassuolo.

Simeone said: "I had many requests, but I only had one thing in mind: to come to Napoli. Proposals also came from important teams, but I only wanted this city that is unique to me. My father was very happy when he found out that I was going to Naples. He sent me a message in which he told me that all Argentines dream of wearing the shirt that belonged to Maradona.

“I have always gotten up in difficult moments, I have learned a lot in these years in Italy and I think I have the experience of being able to contribute to a great team. I've grown up, playing for Napoli is something extraordinary for me and I'm going to prove my worth. I am a footballer who has always given everything on the pitch, fighting for the team and for my teammates. Here I will too and I will be ready as long as I am hired.

"It is an honor to be in Napoli. I am very happy to be here because I always wanted a warm atmosphere and a unique place like this. I'm going to live the blue shirt with the passion that we Argentines have. I know that this is the homeland of Maradona and that Argentine champions of great value have played here and I will do everything possible to live up to the history of this city.

“I chose Napoli because I know that in this position I can make a qualitative leap. I like the warm fans, every time I entered the stadium as a rival I was afraid that the people would eat me. Now it gives me chills to know that the cry of the stadium will be for me. Naples makes me feel at home, it makes me feel in Argentina and now I want to learn Neapolitan right away to be a living part of this city.

"For me it is very important to join the group and get to know the dynamics of the system. This is a very strong group that has a lot of quality. I really wanted to train and yesterday I felt great emotion."
