Ex-Arsenal defender William Gallas has heaped praise on countryman William Saliba.

The French defender finally got his chance to play for Arsenal this season, after several years out on loan.

Saliba has now become first choice next to Gabriel for manager Mikel Arteta in central defense.

Speaking to Genting Casino, Gallas stated: "I have three defenders in my mind that I believe have been performing really well for their clubs this season.

"Saliba at Arsenal is a player that has impressed me a lot. For a boy of his age, he is very strong in the defensive line and plays with a lot of confidence.

"He still makes little mistakes, but I think what he is doing for and the role he is playing in Arsenal's defence is magnificent."
