Blackburn Rovers came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Serie A giants Roma, only to lose 3-2 on penalties in Italy.
Rodrigo Taddei and former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise opened the scoring but Rovers forced an ultimately unsuccessful shoot-out via goals from Paul Gallagher and teenager Aaron Doran.
