Fulham striker Healy in line for UEFA award

Northern Ireland and Fulham striker David Healy could be in line for an award from Uefa for his goalscoring heroics in Euro 2008 qualifying.

Healy set a new record for goals scored in a qualification campaign by netting 13 times in Northern Ireland's narrow failure to reach Austria and Switzerland next summer.

Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington called on Healy to be honoured for his achievement and according to Irish Football Association president Raymond Kennedy, UEFA president Michel Platini has sanctioned the idea.

"He [Platini] was 100 per cent in favour," Kennedy told the Daily Mail.

"He thought it was a fantastic achievement by such a small nation and felt David thoroughly deserved a lasting reminder of what was an incredible feat.

"When you think David scored as many goals in one qualifying tournament as our previous record holder, Colin Clarke, managed in his entire international career, it gives you an indication of the scale of his achievement."
