Fulham boss Marco Silva frustrated after Newcastle defeat: We were 90% attacking

Fulham boss Marco Silva was left frustrated after defeat at home to Newcastle.

Bruno Guimaraes struck late for the only goal of the game.

Silva said: “We had the chances, I think we had a very good first half, just a lack of finishing to our attacks and the chances we created.

“The way we pressed, probably 80-90% of the time we were on the offence.

“They tried to press us high but they were not able to do it. We built really well in that moment of the match to beat their first pressure, and it was up to us to create in the final third attack, but it was not our afternoon.

“We should have scored one or two goals, at least. And if that type of thing happens, of course, it is impossible to guess what is going to happen.

“It is really important to be clinical when you create so many chances, when you are on the front foot for such a long time, when you have the momentum in the game.

“There were some moments where Newcastle tried to break that momentum, when the goalkeeper was on the grass twice, and other players on the grass. Even so, we managed to keep up the intensity during the first half but unfortunately were unable to score.

“The second half was different, our possession was not so good. Some of the balls that we lost started to give them the chance to play in the way that they like with spice, with Anthony Gordon, Alexander Isak and Jacob Murphy, and they scored a goal where we should have been better.

“That moment at the edge of the box was completely empty for the second ball – it is something that we have to work on.

“Overall, looking at the game, it is clear that we deserve more. The commitment, the ambition to win was there, but unfortunately we haven't scored with so many shots."
