Fortuna Düsseldorf coach Frank Kramer has confirmed their interest in Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid.

Abeid is expected to leave Newcastle this month with new manager Steve McClaren looking elsewhere for midfield options.

"This is a player that you always have to watch. Of course, he is interesting, but much more, he is not currently playing," Kramer told Rheinische Post.

"In any case, there's been no date set for his medical."

Abeid has less than a year to run on his Toon deal and is also interesting Lens and Montpellier.
