Fiorentina president Commisso slams fellow American owners: I ran away from US because of this

Fiorentina president Rocco Commisso has slammed his fellow American owners involved in the Super League breakaway.

Commisso admits he left the USA because of such attitudes in sport.

“I ran away from America three years ago because I like the way football is here. I like to take risks, not like in the USA," Commisso told the official Fiorentina website.

“I don't like the closed league the way they have in America and it's the worst possible thing to introduce here. In that situation, the values and principles of meritocracy do not exist.

“The 12 founding clubs were disrespectful. I came here respecting the Italian and European rules and system of football. I don't want things to suddenly change like that, it's not good for the fans or for Fiorentina."

He added: "I've never seen a project announced and then withdrawn within the space of two days.

“Why were their fans not consulted? Why were none of the Serie A clubs consulted? Why was there no transparency when we are supposed to be associates in the Lega Serie A?"
