Ferguson urges Rangers to keep spending

Rangers captain Barry Ferguson admits manager Walter Smith still needs to add to his squad.

He said: "We have got to be confident - there's a big difference in the changing room, it's a happy changing room. Everybody is buzzing.

"We were confident last year but things didn't work out the way we wanted. We have got the right man for the job now in Walter Smith and I'm sure he'll bring in the right players. I'm sure the manager knows himself he still needs three or four players, it's whether he can get them.

"We have not got the biggest of squads, it's important we get players in. That's what the gaffer stressed when he came in - he wanted competition for every place."

Celtic have splashed out £4.4million on Scott Brown and £3m on Massimo Donati, while Rangers haggled for weeks over deals for the likes of Carlos Cuellar, who signed from Osasuna last Friday for around £2m.

But Ferguson said: "I don't tend to look across the road, I just concentrate on our squad. Certainly the players the gaffer has brought in look the part and it would be great if we could add another two or three."
