Former Brighton boss Gus Poyet has rejected the Republic of Ireland job.

Poyet held talks with the FAI about succeeding Stephen Kenny.

But the Irish Independent says negotiations fell through due to Poyet wanting to bring in an extended backroom team.

Poyet, for now, remains Greece coach.

With Ireland, John O'Shea was in caretaker charge for the past week's friendlies.
