Exclusive: Valencia legend Fernando says Ferran Torres suited to Liverpool

Former Valencia sporting director and club legend Fernando Gomez thinks Ferran Torres would fit comfortably into Jurgen Klopp's system at Liverpool.

Torres, 20, has quickly emerged as one of Europe's brightest young talents after two fantastic seasons at the Mestalla.

A product of Valencia's academy, Torres was handed his debut in 2017 and has gone from strength to strength, having made 35 appearances across all competitions so far this season.

Torres' limitless potential has drawn the interest of clubs across Europe.

Manchester United, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Juventusare just some of the names vying for Torres' signature.

Fernando spent 18 years as a player with Los Che and spent two years as sporting director, overseeing the sales of David Silva and Juan Mata.

And the club legend thinks Torres can make the grade at any of the big clubs across Europe, with Klopp's system at Anfield especially appealing.

"Ferran Torres is a great player. He has emerged very young and that is proof of his maturity," Fernando told Tribalfootball.com in an exclusive interview.

"He's skillful, he's great one-on-one, he's quick and he even scores goals.

"He also plays on the inside, takes advantage of spaces and can be part of a team that plays on the counter-attack or a dominant team in terms of possession.

"He can perform well in any team and in any league. In England too, of course, at Liverpool or any other team. Klopp's system fits him and he is mentally very strong to cope with pressure and demands."

Torres has represented Spain at U17, 19 and U21 levels, and would likely demand a large fee.

The young winger has a release clause of €100m, but clubs are unlikely to meet such demands due to the financial impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Another Valencia legend Gaizka Mendieta told Tribalfootball last month that he hopes Torres continues his development at the club.

"Ferran Torres is already very good and I'm sure there will be a lot of offers at the end of the season," Mendieta, who made 230 league appearances for Valencia, said.

"For the sake of Valencia, we hope to see him in the club for many years."
