Exclusive: Valencia icon Mendieta hopes Torres rejects Barcelona, Liverpool

Valencia legend Gaizka Mendieta hopes the club can retain the services of Ferran Torres, but admits offers are likely to come.

Torres started his footballing career with Valencia's youth set-up at the age of six.

He made his first-team debut against Real Zaragoza in November 2017 as a 17-year-old, and would go on to make 13 appearances during the 2017/18 campaign.

It was an exciting time for Valencia supporters as Torres joined fellow locals Carlos Soler and Jose Gaya in the senior set-up.

Torres has gone from strength to strength since, making 88 appearances across all competitions for Los Che.

The exciting winger's performance have caught the eye of Barcelona, Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Torres' current contract runs until 2021 and he has rejected two contract offers from Valencia, giving hope to his potential suitors.

However, club icon Mendieta, speaking in an exclusive interview with Tribalfootball.com, hopes Torres will stay loyal to his hometown club.

"Ferran Torres is already very good and I'm sure there will be a lot of offers at the end of the season," Mendieta, who made 230 league appearances for Valencia, said.

"For the sake of Valencia, we hope to see him in the club for many years.

"Valencia has always produced great talents like Carlos Soler and Gaya and so many other players in the past and I'm sure it will continue to do so.

"Let's hope that the big talents remain in the club for as long as possible."
