Ex-NAC coach Dijkhuizen denies Man City pressure to play loanees

Former NAC Breda coach Marinus Dijkhuizen has dismissed claims of pressure from Manchester City that their loan players must play at least 50 per cent of the club's games in a season. The allegation has appeared in Football Leaks, but Dijkhuizen rubbishes the claims. "Naturally, NAC had an interest in making them play, but I was never obliged to select a City player," he told BN DeStem. "I always had control over the selection, otherwise, of course, I would have stopped immediately. "We did not think Ashley Smith-Brown was good enough, while Brandon Barker was often on the bench, but if a player does not play, like David Faupala, he could be taken back by City." This season, NAC have Erik Palmer-Brown, Luka Ilic and Paolo Fernandes on-loan from City.
