Ex-Liverpool keeper James backing Luton to stay up

Former Liverpool goalkeeper David James believes Luton Town will stay up.

Last night's 1-1 draw with the Reds saw Luton move out of the bottom three.

James, a Luton fan, told BBC Sport: "I kind of didn't want to [have split loyalties] and I did kind of cheer when both teams scored and yeah. Of course I want Luton to stay up but I also want Liverpool to challenge for the title, so it was a difficult one.

"I think the case for Luton was always going to be to try and...it sounds obvious...but try and get their points at home and if they can nick some away as they did against Everton then you know that's a bonus. And the way they've set up... no-one's really hammered them, especially at Kenilworth Road.

"I think the concern that Luton will have, and as a fan I shouldn't really be saying this, is they concede too many crosses. I think Liverpool had 20 plus crosses yesterday and eventually they scored from one.

"With regards to Liverpool, if you're getting in positions to score the goals, there are going to be the odd game where you don't score from two yards, but then the next time you'll score three. They'll be fine. Both teams will be fine. I'm sitting quite happy."
