Ex-Fulham, Tottenham ace Dempsey: USA due a little luck at World Cup

Clint Dempsey is of the belief that the USA national team is capable of progressing from the group stage at the 2014 World Cup.

The US have been drawn in Group G alongside Germany, Portugal and Ghana and although it has been described as a 'group of death', Seattle Sounders star Dempsey suggests he and his teammates are good enough to finish in the top two.

"We have the quality if we play our best ball to get out of the group," he said.

And of the clash with Ghana, which will take place in Natal on June 16 next year, Dempsey felt it was about time that a little bit of fortune fell his side's way after the 2010 World Cup when they lost 2-1 in extra-time in the Round of 16 and the 2006 tournament when losing 2-1 in the group stage to the African nation.

"We're due a win," Dempsey said about the opening fixture.

"They're the team that beat us and kind of crushed our dreams to go on further in the World Cup. I think we're due a little bit of luck and due a win against them."
