The experience of his father as a pro player helped Jonny Evans settle at Manchester United.

In a blog for manutd.com, Evans wrote: "It was good for me that my dad had been through all of that himself as a young player. He was an apprentice at Chelsea and he went to Arsenal for a while after that. He was in that situation of having to go back home.

"It's quite a big thing to go across the water and then have to come back. You're sort of seen as a failure, which is a lot of pressure and something that would be really hard to take. The good thing my parents did was to keep everything low-key for me."
