Former Barcelona coach Quique Setien once challenged Lionel Messi to the point of showing the captain "the door".
The match away to Celta Vigo last season revealed the lack of harmony between Setien and his players, with Messi even ignoring the instructions of assistant coach Eder Sarabia during a cooling break. Now, Setien has disclosed what he told Messi on that day.
"If you don't like what I say, there's the door," Setien told Messi, according to the programme Que T'hi Jugues. The answer came because Messi did not like the tone with which he addressed the players to reproach them for the mistakes that had resulted in Barcelona drawing at Balaidos.
The Argentine asked the coach, according to the radio station, to show respect for players, who have won absolutely everything and who have a much broader track record than Setien.
It was at this point that Setien replied to Messi. The Barcelona captain did not respond to the 62-year-old and simply smiled at him in a compassionate way.
