Everton keen on Lille striker Rafael Leao

Everton are looking at a move for Rafael Leao from Lille in the summer.

According to journalist Duncan Castles, the Toffees have already began initial discussions to bring Rafael to the club in the summer.

Marco Silva wants to add an attacker who can score more goals to his team, as it is seen as their one big weakness.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun have only managed a combined eight goals, while top scorer Richarlison only has 12.

"I don't think it's any secret that Everton need to improve in attack and are looking at attacking-striker recruits for the coming season," journalist Castles told The Transfer Window podcast.

"One of the players they've identified as a potential signing for this summer is Rafael Leao, the Portuguese teenage centre-forward at Lille who's had a strong first season in the French league, scoring seven in 19 Ligue 1 appearances, a couple of assists, been used off the bench a lot so his goal-per-minute ratio is actually an impressive goal every 161 minutes.

"He's a player that attracted a lot of attention across Europe last summer. Manchester City were keen on him before Lille managed to convince him to come there on a training compensation only transfer on the basis that he would have more opportunity to play and develop himself, and that the club Lille wouldn't stand in his way once a bigger European side came in and offered the right money.

"Lille's operating strategy is to sign good young talents, put them on a stage and then have bigger clubs pay them for the development time and allow them to move on."
