Etherington gets the needle to recapture Stoke form

Stoke City's Matthew Etherington continues to struggle with back problems and had an injection to try and cure the problem. The winger missed City's 2-0 defeat at Swansea and has since undergone treatment with boss Tony Pulis desperate for consistency within his side.

Pulis told The Sentinel: "He's had the injection in his back and we are hoping he's okay for the Fulham game on Saturday.

"He's been a bit stiff around the hamstring area, but it's been more back related. We're hoping these injections will settle him down and get him up and running again.

"We are waiting for Matty and Jermaine Pennant to hit top gear. Getting that consistency is so important to us."
