Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has become a brand ambassador for Turkish Airlines, reports, www.sportspromedia.com/. The 36 year old Ivorian joins FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi in promoting the airline, with the pair currently appearing in a new commercial for the brand that was launched last week.
"I feel privileged to be the ambassador of such an important and award-winning brand," said Drogba. "I have a unique link with Turkish Airlines from my time living in Istanbul when I was playing for Galatasaray."
The deal comes amid speculation that Turkish Airlines could be about to replace Samsung as the main and front-of-shirt sponsor of Drogba's Chelsea team.
Temel Kotil, the chief executive of Turkish Airlines, said: "We pride ourselves on our strategic partnerships and couldn't be more delighted that Didier is now part of the Turkish Airlines family.
"Both the UK and African markets are an important focus for us. Not only is Didier an iconic UK football star, but also his philanthropic efforts through the Didier Drogba Foundation mean a lot to us.
"For these reasons and more, he was the obvious choice to be the next face of the Turkish Airlines brand."
