Wolfsburg have signed Atalanta fullback Joakim Maehle.

Maehle joins Wolfsburg on a four-year contract.

“For me, the move to Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga is a challenge that I'm really looking forward to," he said.

“In recent years I've been able to gain an incredible amount of experience at the highest level in Serie A. Now I want to prove myself in the Bundesliga and I will do everything I can to find my feet in my new environment as quickly as possible."

Wolfsburg sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz said: “We are very pleased that Joakim has decided to join VfL Wolfsburg. He is a very experienced player who can occupy both the right and left side of the back line.

“His quality and experience will help the team and I'm sure we'll enjoy him in the future."
