DONE DEAL: Jameson Whiskey sign Newport defender Kyle Jameson; competition announced

January in the football world can mean only one thing, the transfer window madness is upon us - from endless rumours and shock moves to interviews out of car windows and yellow ties.

Jameson, a serious whiskey (that famously doesn't take itself too seriously) thought they would add a bit of craic to the frenzy this year, and have announced the 'signing' of League Two's Newport County centre-back and namesake, Kyle Jameson, with a sponsorship deal lasting throughout the 2023/24 season.

Kyle Jameson commented about the sponsorship: "I couldn't be happier to sign for this iconic 'club' with so much history, what an opportunity! Now it's time to kick on and start delivering the goods for all those Jameson fans out there."

Josh McCarthy, Jameson UK Brand Director said; "What a fantastic way for us to get even more behind the grassroots game through our deal with Kyle & Newport County. Football and whiskey are all about telling stories and we have loads of great things to tell from the 72 EFL clubs. This Kyle Jameson x Jameson partnership just reinforces this and shows that football stories don't always have to come from global superstars. We look forward to sharing all the work we have planned with Kyle in 2024."

Fans also have the chance to get hold of three signed Kyle Jameson football shirts via the brand's INSTAGRAM account on the 31st Jan.

Jameson Irish Whiskey is committed to supporting football at all levels, from their 4-year partnership with the EFL to their much-loved collaborations with some of the biggest curators of the UK football culture scene. Their agreement with Kyle will see this iconic Irish whiskey brand become the official sponsor of his home, away and third kits, with Newport County also showing extensive Jameson branding throughout the stadium as part of the EFL partnership.

The agreement was struck just days before last night's spectacular FA Cup Fourth Round defeat for Newport County at home to Manchester United. Newport pushed United all the way before losing 4-2.
