Doncaster Rovers have signed Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Chris Kirkland on a three-month loan.

The deal is a major coup for new Rovers manager Dean Saunders, and Doncaster issued a statement on their official website thanking their former striker and Latics assistant manager Graeme Jones for his help with the transfer.

Rovers also thanked Wigan for their assistance with Kirkland's wages during the loan spell, which will run until January.
