Dom Ballard was delighted to score in Southampton's EFL Trophy win against Cambridge United.

Ballard – on the pitch for just 15 minutes – took full advantage and turned in for his first Saints goal during the 3-0 win, after his initial shot was saved.

“It was a dream come true so I'm really proud of myself and everyone around me who's made it happen, a dream come true," Ballard told the Saints website.

“I went not knowing if I was going to play so you just have to prepare yourself right.

"I did that and it gave me the best opportunity to score or effect the game, and that's what I did."
