Liverpool hero Dean Saunders says the world's best no longer want to play for Manchester United.

United used to be alongside Real Madrid as one of the heavyweights in European football.

But Saunders insists the Spaniards have left United in their wake in recent seasons.

“They'd be queuing up wouldn't they," he told the Daily Star when asked who could replace Jose Mourinho.

“There's all sorts of names they could get. The fans will probably have a say in that as well, who they want to come in.

“I think it's a bit strange they signed Fred but they haven't gone and bought the centre-halves that he wanted.

“If Real Madrid try and sign a player they normally get him. Bayern Munich try and sign a player they normally get them.

“Once they make it known they want them they normally get them and Man United used to be like that - If they want a player they get them.

“And I think the manager's gripe will be he hasn't been given the rest of his building plans, building the team to try and compete with Man City."
