Young Danish striker Nicki Bille Nielsen is interesting Everton.

The News of the World says Goodison Park scouts were watching as the 22-year-old frontman topped the goalscoring charts at the prestigious Toulon tournament last week.

Nielsen, who currently plays in his homeland for FC Nordsjaelland, scored five times in four games as Denmark reached the final of the competition.

Bille Nielsen would cost around £3m and the 6ft 1in frontman could be a bargain replacement for Yakubu if the Nigerian moves to West Ham or elsewhere this summer.

Bille Nielsen had trials with Newcastle and Portsmouth as a teenager before moving to Reggina in Italy at the age of 18. But after seven appearances in Serie A, he was loaned out to lower league clubs and returned home to Denmark following a dispute over unpaid wages.

He has played at all levels from Under-18 to Under-21 for Denmark and last season helped Nordsjaelland triumph in the Danish Cup.
