Curva Sud Milan: Why we're so angry with Donnarumma

The Curva Sud Milan published a lengthy letter to Gigio Donnarumma ahead of last night's victory over PSG.

AC Milan ultras have long felt betrayed by their former goalkeeper over the way he left for PSG.

Upon his return to San Siro, the Curva Sud posted a letter to the Italy international:

Dear Mercenary....

Romantic and dreamers as we are, from Gianluigi Donnarumma we Milanese would have expected a behavior that followed what was his declared Rossoneri cheering, we would have expected gratitude from those of us who said they had Milan in their hearts while being aware that in today's football it is difficult to resist certain sirens; Milan too would certainly have deserved gratitude from Donnarumma for all that the club had done for him, for having chosen him, raised him and launched in Serie A; Milan, who was in a difficult economic situation over the years of the negotiation with Donnarumma, it could have earned important figures from the sale of his goalkeeper if he hadn't tried every way to leave on a zero transfer. If instead he had allowed Milan to earn from his sale, Donnarumma would demonstrate his gratitude and even his attachment to the club, certainly in a truly unusual way - in the football world of these years - to thank those who had made their dreams come true as a child.

But the story went differently than we hoped and how we would have deserved it, made fun of our feelings and passion for fans, that Milan forced to renounce a capital on which it had bet and invested.

For tonight we had a million counterfeit banknotes printed to be launched at Donnarumma: if in the first half the goalkeeper is under the Curve Sud we will throw them after the vocalist's countdown, at minute 10 just like the millions he took to go to Paris; if instead Donnarumma will be under the Sud in the recovery, the countdown will take place shortly before the start of the second half.

The false dollar initiative that we conceived and implemented against Donnarumma will have proceeds and we have decided that all the sum will go to the football schools of the Baggio and Corvetto districts as part of the humanitarian project "Sport4re-start ": with the money obtained we will buy for these clubs, a reference point for children and young people from the two neighborhoods, sweaters, shoes, balls and everything a child needs to play football and chase his dreams. The same dreams that a goalkeeper who arrived at Milan as a child had in the team he was a fan of.

A Milanese child..

Not all children who start playing football have the luck and great chance, one day, of being able to play football on their favourite team, to be able to dress that shirt they dreamed of in sunny and dusty suburban fields.

And this is exactly what happened to a child born in February 1999 in Castellammare di Stabia: Milan fan of Kakà and Shevechenko, Maldini and Gattuso, this 14-year-old boy is chosen by Milan to play in the "very young", then in the "pupils" and finally in the "spring" of Rossoneri. This boy is tall, has long arms and has always played as a goalkeeper, that player who is always difficult to have on the team on the pitch because all the children want to play dreaming of scoring: instead this child was born to defend the door, to prevent the attacker from scoring, to be the most solo footballer on the pitch. But now this kid has the shirt of his heart team, defends the door of the team he loves and starts dreaming even bigger: he dreams of Serie A,dreams of taking the field in San Siro, dreams of one day being the goalkeeper of Milan, the team for which he has always cheered.

This is what the Milanese child born in Castellammare di Stabia dreams of, this is what Gianluigi Donna-rumma dreams of. What looked like a fairy tale becomes reality when 15-year-old Donnarumma joins the first team sitting on the bench next to Mr. Inzaghi; the following year, at 16 years old, Gianluigi Donnarumma signs the first professional contract with Milan, with the team for which his heart has beaten since childhood.

That's it, from this moment the streets of Milan and a 16-year-old goalkeeper are united, only the last part of the dream is missing, which will be a brave coach and a real man to realize: Sinisa Mihalovic will entrust the Devil's door to Donnarumma making him make his Serie A debut just over sixteen, on October 25, 2015. From that day on, the boy will be the goalkeeper of Milan, quickly becoming a darling of the South and an idol for many children and fans of the Devil.

Everything seems perfect: a Milan fan goalkeeper, raised in the Rossoneri youth team, owner in Serie A at just 16 years old, there are all the prospects for Milanese fans to review a flag on the pitch, someone who can add pages to that legendary story written by the Maldini, Rivera, Captain Baresi. A creepy fairy tale, a romantic story that only football can tell but that will not have a happy ending.

And the fault will not be of the Milanese fans".
