Crystal Palace defender Joel Ward says they showed the right "character' for their 0-0 draw with Newcastle.

Palace are yet to win in 2023.

But Ward says: "It is always going to be a tough game against Newcastle in the form they are in. They possess a lot of threats and we had to nullify that as a team.

"We wanted to exploit the spaces they leave; it makes it difficult when games don't go the way you want.

"It takes a lot of character to make sure you don't concede when your backs are against the wall and we showed that."
