Scottish ref Brines has not been 'dumped' claims SFA

The Scottish Football Association insist that referee Iain Brines has not been 'dumped' from the FIFA list. Brines will not be on the list of nominees put forward by the SFA referees committee to football's governing body for consideration later this year.

The SFA's head of referee development Donald McVicar told the Daily Star, "Iain Brines has not been dumped."

"The FIFA list runs from January to December and he is on it.

"He is not among the list of nominees for 2009, as we have freshened up the list.

"We always introduce new referees to FIFA and that has been done here.

"This is not done because of a referee's performance abroad, or anything like that.

"It is to give referees a chance to develop their FIFA careers.

"Older referees have been making way for new ones for some time now and that's been done again."
